Do you know what exponents are? Well if you don’t, read this article. During math this week we did the 8-minute test. And Jeopardy where we learned more about exponents, digits, multiplying by 10’s, 100’s, 1,000’s. We also learned about meters, millimeters, centimeters, kilometers. After that we learned how to multiply and divide exponents. Lastly we learned about place values and also did IXL for homework this week and it was a little hard. Those are all of the things that we did this week.
Wonderful Writing News

Reporting from The John Middleton Elementary school we have some exciting writing news for you and your family from the one and only Ms.Arnold’s fifth grade class! From 2016 -2017! First thing we have for you is the wheel of topics! The wheel of topics is a bunch of little triangles that form the wheel and there is a different writing topic in each triangle we use in class. Each student chooses one topic and writes an entry. This week the students wrote three entries (paragraphs). The next thing we learned about was narrative writing. We know that 3 important things we need to include in narrative writing are the settings, characters, and main events. The third thing the did was there pre-assessment. Maddie wrote about Beijing, Sophia wrote about her second time to London, Filip wrote about his broken arm, and Ethan wrote about moving to Illinois (he’s from Texas).
; ) Have a nice day and this will be updated soon!
Our super specials this week
By: Cecelia, Danny, Ishtar and Matteo
“Hhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Aaaaaaaaaaa” this is one of many sounds you might hear after the pacer test. In gym we played Bluezone knockout and Capture the flag. But the main thing was the pacer test it was kind of annoying to run back and forth for 50 laps. Also, in art we made 3D models of words that are three to four letters long. Our art teacher took a picture of it in black and white so we can make a cool shaded drawing with pen we used graphite to make it shaded. In drama this week we played lots of games and found our troop spots. One game is greetings your majesty where someone goes up and says greetings your majesty and the person in the chair tries to guess who it is saying greetings your majesty. So those are the main things we did in specials this week.

Getting social in social studies!
In social studies this week, we did a lot of fun and cool activities. First, we mapped out some items on the floor. Our teacher then showed us how the tiles on the floor formed a grid. We used the grid to map out the items again. For some of us the grid was easier and for some of us it was harder. Also, we had social studies vocabulary words. Everyone had to find the definitions of the words in our social studies books. After that, we watched a video and counted how many times they said our vocabulary words. That is all we did for social studies this week, but there is more to come!
